Did you know that once the Emir of Kano isn’t in the palace,
it’s easy to tell because the palace flag goes down? Wondering how I got this
info? Well, because I just got back from Kano so stay tuned while I pepper you
small with what I learnt from my trip to Kano. Although I have been putting off
blogging about this just because I can be Lazy sometimes and other times words
fail me.
I had to sweet talk myself to posting this today, I even
went as far as buying a “gotta have it” cold stone cup of ice cream to reward
myself afterwards. Moving on, if you know me so well, you can easily tell I am
passionate about tourism, be it local or international my leg just itches to
hop on a plane or bus and move but most times my bank account isn’t Gbagam like
psquare’s own. I sha know that someday my bank account will stop disappointing
me and allow me be great.
When I heard there was an official trip to Kano, I quickly declined
(thank God for second chance), the reason I did was because I couldn’t find any
suitable (to my taste) kinda hotel so there was no way I was going to manage
just any hotel but because God loves His children, I was looking into my
colleagues system the next morning and saw ‘Bristol Palace Hotel’. Oh my God! My
jaws dropped once I saw the hotel, couldn’t even believe after my one hour
search and not seeing anything I liked, I was facing this beauty. I was so
speechless with the architecture-literally. I just imagined myself checked into
one of the rooms and as luck will have it, I finally went on the trip. Whew!
Booked our Azman air ticket, although Arik and Med view fly’s
that route but earlier hours of the day while we needed an evening flight. We
got into Kano at about 8:13pm and finally got check into the hotel at 9:30pm. I
couldn’t curtail my excitement, so I started taking my selfie from the hotel
lobby forgetting how tired I was.
My view from my hotel room was so beautiful, it was the view
of the swimming pool, water calm and still with light shining from within, a
perfect atmosphere for love birds or just to relax only that my body needed her
beauty sleep and I had to obey.
The next morning, we went down to have our breakfast before
we head out for what took us to Kano… let’s skip the details of how our hotel
booking was messed up a bit, skipping it because the General Manager is a fine
bobo plus he assisted very well. By the time we were done with our meeting in
Kano, we realized we still had time to faff around so we asked for a tour of
Kano. Unfortunately for us, all we saw was Sabon Gari (mostly for non-natives)
and Hajj camp market because our host car developed fault.
Once we picked up the car from the mechanic which at that
point was already late (about 8pm) we decided to head back to the hotel passing
through Northwest University that has a very fine structure I must say. It
reminded me of a lot of universities in Jand.
When we got back to the hotel we decided to go and have a feel of the
swimming area of the hotel. My colleague probably had a better time than I did
because for some reason the Kano mosquitoes wanted to suck my blood dry and
since I wasn’t ready to treat malaria, I respected myself and went in to sleep.
The next morning, we went down to have breakfast, we had “something
light” as we were not really hungry LOL. But before breakfast we booked down a
cab to take us back to the airport and asked if he could take us to the Emir’s
palace and Museum before we left, after all we claim to be tourist so how can
we come all the way and not try to visit the Emir? When we got to the palace,
we were told we couldn’t go in since we had no appointment, although the driver
tried to help us, he was told the Emir wasn’t in the palace and he confirmed it
when he noticed the flag wasn’t there.
We asked if we could take pictures and were told we could
only take pictures from the car, since half bread is better than puff puff we
decided to take some shots. Visiting the palace and the Museum and hearing so
much history made me fall in love with the state. A beautiful place I must say,
with good roads and light. The people so welcoming, I plan to go back soon as I
didn’t get to tick off all my to do list but I must say my trip was amazing. I
had so much fun and interacted with so many amazing people. Just one minor
challenge other than that it was awesome. Lest I forget, the Kilishi (dried
suya) is so delicious and cheap or like a friend will say, it’s so affordable.
