A Letter to My Darling Daughter

Hello Eva, it's your mummy. I think about you every day even though you have not been conceived. My darling, my angel, my princess, mummy's precious one what can I say? I can't wait to hold you in my arms to tell you how important you are to me. I always dreamt of having a baby sister to pamper yet teach her good values of life but that never happened. I remember asking your grandma Ese to give me a baby sister but she replied saying no more babies till I give birth.

I do hope your daddy likes the name Eva, because it means full of life or mother of life and that’s how I want you to always be. I have planned the early stage of your life to make sure you are always happy, to make sure you get what you want because you deserve it. I have cried a lot and still do when I feel I am not achieving much because it feels like I'm already disappointing you but I promise you this day,I won't cry anymore rather I will work harder till you come to this world.

My darling Eva, you are going to have to be yourself, you can't be carried away by what happens in this world. There's so much hate and so much evil, I can guide you to be on the right path but I won't always be there to protect you. And when I'm not there, I'm begging you to be at your best, to make the right decision. I wish you the strength to face challenges with confidence along with wisdom to choose your battles carefully.

My baby, when you see someone in distress try your best to help, when you see someone sad give the person a listening ear you might be the only one who can put a smile on their face.  If I scold you, don't think I hate you, I am just trying to correct you and it's out of love. Please don't grow up too fast. I might not always be comfortable with the things I hear you say but I would rather be uncomfortable than to know you are hiding things from me.

I want to share your secret with you, I want to know when you are happy, when you are sad, when you start your period, once you fall in love. I want to be your mother and your friend. Allow me worry about your life, you just stay happy. Let me love you with everything in me, all I want is to see you smile. No jokes, I want the world for you. I will need you to understand that money can't buy happiness. Study hard, work smart to be successful but let your heart be filled with so much love for people.

Never look down on anyone, you don't know what they will turn out to be tomorrow. I'm going to teach you to cook, to swim, to be industrious, I'll never show you when I'm weak, and if you ever feel too tired can you please draw your strength from me? When you are weak, I'll be strong so please count on me through thick and thin. I will stalk you because I love you, you may not understand why in the beginning but in the long run you'll know I did it for your good.

I once heard someone say the beauty and success of other women doesn't alter theirs, please hold on to it. You have to be confident, your self-confidence will take you places. You will stand before kings, as long as you are doing things the right way never explain yourself to anyone and never apologize for who you are.

My Ace, never bring your fellow woman down the only person you should compete with is yourself. Always think of how to make yourself better. Do things that you know will put a smile on my face and your dads. I know you are going to be a blessing to us and I know your dad will love you just as much I do. Let your voice be heard but make sure you don't argue with anyone. Once you have made your point let it be.

Mummy has to stop here, we will continue the rest when you come. But before I go, I want you to know I will love you, nurture you, guide you, encourage you, provide for you, defend you, make excuses for you and correct you later. And when tomorrow comes and I'm not there please remember you are braver than you believe, smarter than you think, stronger than you seem, the finest person in the world and even though we are apart just know I'll always be with you.

But most of all I'll never stop praying for you my princess.

Love,
Mummy Kay.
